Eat This Dinner Before a Night of Drinking

Meeting friends for drinks later? You're gonna want to listen up. If you are like me, a night out drinking can go one of two ways: you have a wonderful, blissful buzz or you don't eat enough prior, get super drunk and feel like death the next day. And a lot of that is based on what you eat before you go out drinking. Eating a big greasy burger and fries and washing it down with a Diet Coke isn’t exactly the best way to prep for a night out with cocktails, because you can feel full and bloated. There are some foods, though, that can help you stay on your feet longer and keep that hangover from attacking the day after. I trolled the Internet, and added in my personal experience, of what exactl

Jack O’Lantern Protein Balls

These protein balls feature a delicious combination of peanut butter, pumpkin, cinnamon, and Vanilla Shakeology. It’s the perfect balance of satisfying protein, with fall flavors to make you swoon. The peanut butter can be swapped for almond butter, cashew butter, or even sunflower seed butter (to make it nut free). And if you happen to have “pumpkin pie spice” on hand for the holidays, you could swap it for the cinnamon. Mini chocolate chips and pretzels transform these treats into mini Jack-o’-Lanterns. If you can’t track down chocolate chips or pretzels, or simply want to skip that step, they’ll still be delicious without them. Prep Time 15 minutes Total Time 15 minutes Servings 6 serving

Apple Cinnamon Quesadilla

Apples, cinnamon, and cream cheese are a delicious combination in this Apple Cinnamon Quesadilla recipe. Its whole-wheat wrap crisps up perfectly in a skillet and keeps this snack in the “healthy carbs” column. A drizzle of honey (or maple syrup if you prefer) takes this fruity quesadilla from healthy snack to tempting treat. The original recipe is so good, you might want to make it the same way every time, but there are plenty of ways to modify. Instead of apples, you could try sliced pears or peaches, or use an all-fruit spread like sugar-free apple butter. Swap the cinnamon for ground ginger or nutmeg. For a slightly lower-calorie treat, choose Neufchâtel cheese instead of cream cheese (a

Beef Stew

Beef Stew is the kind of meal that announces itself. It hits you with a rich aroma the moment you walk in the door and follows you from room to room while it cooks. A traditional beef stew starts with a handful of basic ingredients, but the rest is a cornucopia of flavorful opportunities. Unfortunately, old habits die hard. Many of us follow classic recipes that are anything but healthy. So how do we make a healthier beef stew? Beginning with lean beef is paramount. As the meat cooks, slowing breaking down into tender morsels, any fat it contains melts into the stew. The more fat in the meat, the more fat in your stew. As surprising as it may sound, tough, lean cuts of meat make the best ste

80 Day Obsession: Week 12 Results

12 weeks of consistency. Back in July when I was asked to be a part of the 80 Day Obsession Test Group, 3 months seemed like a freaking LONG TIME. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to commit to something for sooooo long. And honestly it was because I had only ever once did a program for that long, and I didn’t stick to the meal plan 100%. This has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, mentally and physically. But I’m really PROUD of how far I’ve pushed myself and that I’ve kept going. There have been a lot of sacrifices, but I’ve loved the changes that I’ve seen from my body thus far. The final week of Phase 3 included six workout days, and with each move we did 15 reps of the move, and the

80 Day Obsession: Week 11 Results

It's been a few weeks since I blogged about 80 Day Obsession. Phase 3 is flying by and I only have 2 more weeks of this program left. WOW. Phase 3 has been challenging both physically and mentally. I've only ever completed a 90 day program with Beachbody one other time before, and it's usually by the end of Month 2 that I start to get restless and antsy. And it's started to get this way for me in Phase 3, if I can be 100% honest. The workouts in this program are AMAZING. The most challenging I have ever completed in my life, and I am loving them. Sometimes I love to hate them, but each day and week is keeping me guessing. Nutrition has always been my weakness. While I can follow a plan on we

Easy Turkey Chili

This Easy Turkey Chili is a comforting “stick-to-your-ribs” kind of meal. Extra lean ground turkey packs in the protein and bite-sized chunks of sweet potatoes are a delicious, fiber-filled twist on the usual bean chili. In addition to sweet potatoes, there are a number of ways to mix up your chili routine. If you’re craving a different meat, you could substitute ground chicken breast or extra lean ground beef instead of turkey. Or, use this recipe as a template and swap a cup of your favorite beans for the sweet potatoes. Not a spicy food fan? That’s okay, feel free to cut down (or omit) the chili powder. This easy turkey chili recipe maintains tons of flavor even without the heat. Want to
